Lead Play Facilitator
Part-Time | After-School, Evening & Weekend Hours
Sensory Play Center | Shelton, CT
Sensory Play Center is looking for an experienced, dependable Lead Play Facilitator to join our team.
This is a great part-time opportunity for a teacher, paraprofessional, related service provider, behavior technician, school support professional, or other individual who works in a school setting and would like additional hours after school and on weekends.
Our Lead Play Facilitators work directly with children and teens of all abilities, helping create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place to play, explore, and connect. This position is designed for someone who already has experience working with children with diverse needs and is comfortable supporting children with different communication styles, sensory needs, behaviors, and abilities.
What You'll Do
Engage and play with children throughout our sensory play space.
Support children with autism, ADHD, developmental disabilities, sensory differences, and other diverse needs.
Help children explore new sensory experiences and participate at their own pace.
Model positive play, communication, social interaction, and regulation strategies.
Maintain active supervision and help ensure a safe play environment.
Welcome and interact with children, caregivers, and families.
Serve as an experienced resource for other Play Facilitators while working under the direction of the Front Desk Coordinator.
Assist with programs, birthday parties, and special events.
Set up, sanitize, clean, and reset play equipment and activity areas.
Support the overall flow of open play sessions and programs.
We're Looking for Someone Who
Is 18 years of age or older.
Has previous experience working with children with diverse needs.
Is patient, dependable, engaging, and comfortable taking initiative.
Enjoys working directly with children and families.
Works well as part of a team.
Can remain calm and supportive in a busy play environment.
Experience in education, special education, childcare, therapeutic services, or another child-centered setting is strongly preferred.
Background check and Mandated Reporter training are required. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.
Schedule
This is a part-time position focused on after-school, evening, and weekend hours.
Applicants must be available for weekend shifts and commit to a minimum of four Saturday or Sunday shifts per month.
This position may be an especially good fit for someone currently working in a school system who is looking for consistent additional hours outside of the school day.
Compensation
$20–$23 per hour, depending on experience.
